A new modern prison without bars near Samoranovo

A new and modern prison complex is being built at the foot of the Rila mountain, on the site of the former military units near the village of Samoranovo, Dupnitsa district. The property has an area of ​​151,969 square meters and will be developed with 52 buildings with checkpoints, on three floors, meeting all European standards. The modern prison is equipped with many cameras and video surveillance rooms, with remote locking, without bars and has 200 rooms for a total of 400 people. The rooms are equipped with a desk, two beds, a wardrobe, shelves for books and personal belongings and a private bathroom, as well as windows without bars.

The prison complex is divided into two zones - the first zone has an increased level of surveillance and security and will be located in the western part of the site. There is a checkpoint at the entrance to the area and separation of the different spaces inside. This zone includes the following objects: the main building of the prison and its specialized administration; a general prison administration building with staff and observation rooms; building for storage, kitchen, laundry room, medical center with a doctor's, dentist's office, as well as a hospital with two hospital rooms. An indoor sports center with a changing room, a billiards room, a table tennis room and a gym is planned. The remaining buildings in this area are for a school and a library, workshops for the employment and training of prisoners, a chapel and an outdoor sports area with sports grounds and sports courts - for basketball and volleyball, a large and a small football field.

The second zone is in the eastern part of the site and will have a lighter security regime, again with a separate checkpoint. This area includes the following objects: a transitional ward for prisoners, representing a dormitory with rooms for self-accommodation and shared spaces such as a living room, kitchen, dining room, etc.; a social center for work with prisoners; a training center for staff and employees, as well as an adjacent hotel part.

The financing of the new prison complex is under the Justice program of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, project "Increasing staff capacity, building a pilot prison connected to a training center and improving the rehabilitation of prisoners".
